Q&A with the Fresno State 2017 Lacrosse Seniors
4/20/2017 5:04:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team will honor five seniors on Friday night. Caroline Dineen-Carlson, Chelsea Hall, Alex White, Chyna Hill and Kyleigh Westgarth will play their last game in the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium at 6 p.m. PT against Cal.
GoBulldogs.com took the opportunity to catch up with the five seniors to reflect on the memories they have shared as a senior class, discuss what Friday night will mean to them and what life after lacrosse might look like.
Q: What does Senior Night mean to you?
Chyna: It is a celebration of all the years I have played lacrosse and all the hard work that I have put in. It is the start of a new chapter of my life. I'm sad about my lacrosse career ending but it will be wonderful thing for me to look back on. I will always remember all the great times I've had with my teammates, and all the quality time and road trips I spent with my family to get to where I am now. Friday night will be a night of joy and happiness.
Alex: This is the last time we will have the opportunity to put on our Bulldog uniform and play in our home stadium. It's going to be an emotional night because we put a lot of hard work, sweat and tears into playing lacrosse. It's going to be a really special night for me to be able to play my last home game with this group. I'm really excited to have my family there tomorrow night because they have been my biggest support system.
Kyleigh: Tomorrow night is going to be about celebrating the growth of this program and all the hard work we have put in since our freshman season when we only had two wins. When I look back on how far this program has come in the last four years, it makes me really proud to have been a part of it all. It will also be a celebration of starting a new chapter of my life.
Chelsea: Senior Night is going to full of emotions as I look back on all the happy memories I have made as a part of this program, all of our accomplished goals and how far this program has come. It's been a fun ride and I'm proud of this senior class.
Caroline: Senior Night will be a special game because it is our last time defending our home field, we'll have the opportunity to advance to playoffs and it will be the end of a chapter in my life. It will be a bittersweet night because lacrosse is something that I love to play every single day and my life has revolved around lacrosse for so long. I know I will miss lacrosse tremendously and ending this chapter is sad for me. However, I am excited to graduate and move on to a new chapter of my life.
Q: Talk about a difficult situation you have faced during your lacrosse career that your fellow seniors have helped you through:
Alex: I tore my ACL my freshman year and to have Chyna, who had torn her ACL a year prior, help me through it made all the difference for me. Recovering from an injury like that is such an emotional and draining process, having someone to talk to through the process was huge for me. I honestly think having Chyna's support is what got me through the rehab process and allowed me to continue my lacrosse career at Fresno State.
Chyna: I am a fifth year senior and to have these four young women support me and make me feel like part of their senior class has been so incredible for me during my last year. I had a great senior year and I have them to thank for that.
Caroline: Chyna, Kyleigh, Alex and Chelsea have all been there for me through countless difficult situations. This senior class understands the importance of respecting teammates and lending a hand to a teammate in need. Which I think are great attributes that every one of my fellow seniors have. So, thank you all for the times you've been there for me.
Q: If you had to describe your senior class in one word, which word would you choose?
Chelsea: Survivors
Chyna: Determined
Kyleigh: Balanced
Caroline: Determined
Alex: Prideful
Q: What song reminds you of Chelsea Hall?
Alex: "I Wouldn't Change a Thing" by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas. There were so many times when we would go in the locker room after a long practice, blast that song and sing a duet. If our careers don't work out we plan to go on tour performing that duet. We will just sing this one song five times during each performance.
Q: What was your first memory of Kyleigh Westgarth?
Chyna: The first time I met Kyleigh, I thought to myself "who is this girl with all that hair". Then I thought to myself "how can someone with that much hair run that fast?".Â
Q: What is one of your favorite memories that you have with your fellow seniors?
Caroline: I will always remember the bus rides to games. Especially, "A.C.K" which was mine, Kyleigh and Alex's Adele tribute band. A.C.K would make appearances on long bus rides. Sometimes Chelsea would make a guest appearance in our performances.
Q: If Caroline was an Emoji, which one would she be?
Chyna: Caroline would be the Emoji with the cowboy hat on, because she loves country music and owns a cowboy hat.
Q: If Alex was an Emoji, which one would she be?
Kyleigh: Alex would be the upside down smiley face because she's always happy, but she stresses herself out in any possible way she can.
Q: If one of you were to become president, which one of you would it be?
Chelsea: Alex!
Kyleigh: Alex!
Chyna: Alex or myself.
Caroline: We all have strong personalities, but I think Chyna might win this one.
Chelsea: Okay, Alex would be president and Chyna would be vice president.
Q: If you had to choose an amazing race partner from this senior class, who would it be?
Chelsea: I would choose Caroline.
Kyleigh: I wouldn't choose Alex, because she would get way too stressed out. I would probably pick Chyna.
Chyna: I would choose Kyleigh.
Alex: I would pick Caroline. She would be willing to eat all the weird stuff and do the crazy challenges, and I wouldn't be able to do those things.
Caroline: I would choose Kyleigh. Â
Q: Where do you see each other five years from now? Â Â
Chelsea: Five years from now, I see Alex being a big time news producer. She will probably also own a German Shepard puppy by then.
Kyleigh: I see Chelsea doing PR for a professional sports team.
Alex: I want to add that Chelsea will probably invent the world's loudest alarm clock, so that she will be able to be on time for once.
Chyna: I could see Kyleigh owning a zoo, or having a zoo in her backyard.
Alex: I see Caroline being a successful lacrosse coach. I think she has a great passion for the game and she could be a great head coach of a program.
Caroline: In five years, I see Chyna living somewhere on the east coast and coaching college lacrosse. I could also see her being a motivational speaker, so she can share her story and motivate others to persevere. She has some of the greatest determination I've ever seen in an athlete.
Q: Ten years from now when you all come back to Fresno to play in the Fresno State lacrosse alumni game, where will you go eat?
Kyleigh: Dog House
Chyna: No, not Dog House. We are going to be in our careers and making money by then. Can we do a classy brunch?
Alex: Brunch, at Piazza Del Pane!
Chelsea: Yes, Pane!!
