HONOLULU (AP) - Travis Robinson scored 25 points and Terrance Roberson and Melvin Ely each added 19 Friday night as Fresno State ran over Florida International, 90-75, in the opening round of the Hawaii Pacific Thanksgiving Classic.
The Bulldogs (2-1) and Golden Panthers (1-2) played on even terms for most of the first half before 25-6 run, helped by five 3-pointers, to take a 52-32 lead at the midway mark. Travis DeMandy, who finished with 12 points, had two of his three 3-pointers during the spurt.
The Bulldogs made 30 of 65 shots, including 12 of 26 from behind the 3-point line. In addition to DeMandy's long-range shooting, Roberson and Robinson also chipped in with three 3-pointers apiece. Meanwhile, Florida International was only 5 of 23 from long distance.
Fresno State built up the margin to 21 points early in the second half, but the Golden Panthers could get no closer than nine. Marshod Fairweather led the Florida International drive, scoring his team's final 15 points. He finished with 25.
Also in double figures for FIU were Jabahri Brown, who had 15 points and 17 rebounds, Karel Rosario 14 and Carlos Arroyo 13.
For Fresno State, Ely had 11 boards and Noel Felix handed out 12 assists.
The Bulldogs played without All-America candidate Courtney Alexander, who sat out his third consecutive game with an injury.
