FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Courtney Alexander scored 29 points to lead Fresno State to a 95-67 nonconference victory over Santa Clara on Tuesday.
Alexander, who missed the first seven games of the season with a stress fracture in his foot, is averaging 36 points a game in the last three games.
Fresno State (5-5) had lost three of its four home games before Tuesday's win.
Demetrius Porter added a season-high 24 points for Fresno State, which led by as many as 29 in the second half. Alexander sat out the final 10 minutes.
Santa Clara (5-3) was lead by Brian Jones, who scored 13.
Fresno State came out hot, hitting its first six shots to take a 15-4 lead in the first three minutes. Alexander scored seven in that run, Porter added 6 points.
Santa Clara got as close as 7 points twice in the first half, but a 19-7 run at the end of the first half gave Fresno a 49-27 lead.
Fresno State continued to dominate in the second half, opening up a 65-37 lead with 14:00 to go. Six consecutive points by Alexander gave Fresno its biggest lead of the game, 77-48, with just less than 10:00 left.
Todd Wuschnig added 11 for Santa Clara and Brian Vaka had 10. Terrance Roberson scored 11 points for Fresno State.
Fresno State hit 61 percent of its shots in the first half but struggled at the free throw line, making only 20 of 32 for the game.
