FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Courtney Alexander scored 25 points to lead Fresno State to a 95-73 victory against Wagner in the Trend Homes Classic on Tuesday night.
Larry Abney scored 21 points for Fresno State (8-5) and had a career-high and tournament-record 19 rebounds.
Jermaine Hall led Wagner (3-2) with 23 points, hitting 11 of his 13 shots from the field. Jeff Klauder added 18 for Wagner.
Hall scored 13 of his points in the first half as Wagner took a 25-20 lead with less than seven minutes left in the half. But Fresno State took the lead for good with a 10 straight points and had a 40-35 halftime lead.
Fresno State broke the game open quickly in the second half, outscoring the Seahawks 13-2 in the first three minutes. Wagner couldn't get any closer than 10 points the rest of the game.
Fresno State dominated the boards with a 51-33 advantage. Terrance Roberson, who had 15 points for Fresno, also pulled down 10 rebounds. Demetrius Porter added 12 for the Bulldogs to go along with 10 assists.
Wagner tried to make up for the rebounding deficiency with its defense and 3-point shooting. The Seahawks succeeded in forcing 22 Fresno turnovers but hit on only 10 of 33 3-point attempts.
In the first game of the tournament, Cornell scored a 92-89 overtime victory against Norfolk State.
