FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Terrance Roberson scored a game-high 21 points and two other Bulldogs added double figures to help lead Fresno State to a 74-68 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday at Selland Arena.
Seniors Larry Abney and Courtney Alexander contributed 15 apiece and a combined 16 rebounds to help the Bulldogs (4-3) snap a two-game losing streak and celebrate Alexander's first game of the season.
Widely considered one of the top shooting guards in the country, Alexander was forced to sit out the Bulldogs' first six games with a stress fracture on the top of his left foot.
Scoring in double figures for Northern Arizona was 7-foot center Dan McClintock (21 points) and 3-point specialist Ross Land (17).
Land made three of the Lumberjacks 3-point baskets, including two in the final 2:47 to go along with a short jumper that pulled Northern Arizona within two points with 18 seconds to go.
But with time running out, the Lumberjacks had to resort to fouling, where the Bulldogs converted their final eight points to seal the victory.
The game was one of runs throughout, as Fresno State opened the action by scoring the first eight points. On a 13-3 run, the Bulldogs did not allow Northern Arizona to reach double-figure scoring until just under nine minutes to go in the half.
But the Lumberjacks responded with a 9-0 run of their own that sparked them to outscore the Bulldogs 19-8, and head into the locker room at the half with just a five-point deficit.
The second started just like the first, with Fresno State opening with a 10-2 run that widened their lead to 15 points. But the Lumberjacks responded with an 8-0 run, then traded baskets with the Bulldogs to keep the game close until the final seconds.
