FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Courtney Alexander scored 32 points, including 21 in the second half to lead Fresno State to a 114-101 victory Monday against Cal Poly.
Fresno State (2-0) led by 20 points with just under three minutes left in the game but Cal Poly (0-1) hit five 3-point baskets down the stretch to make the game close.
Melvin Ely had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Fresno and Larry Abney added 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Mike Wozniak led Cal Poly with 29 points while Chris Bjorklund finished with 19 and Jabbar Washington had 18.
Fresno State took a 56-41 halftime lead with four players reaching double figures. Ely had 14 in the half while Chris Herren added 12 and Abney and Alexander each had 11. Wozniak kept Cal Poly in the game in the first half with 19 points.
Herren finished with 16 points and 10 assists for Fresno.
