The Fresno State equestrian team remained undefeated in Region I competition last weekend as they took high point team honors at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association event at UC Davis. The Bulldogs have now won all six English shows this season.
Bernardi captures high point honors
Senior Dina Bernardi (Salinas, Calif.) earned high point rider honors last weekend at UC Davis with a first place finish in Open Equitation over Fences and a second place finish in Open Equitation Flat. Bernardi has been named high point rider in four shows this season and reserve champion twice. Freshman Sarah Woodward (Fresno, Calif.) was named the reserve high point rider at the UC Davis show last weekend.
Jones now top Western rider in Region I
After earning high point rider honors last weekend at UC Davis, senior Jennifer Jones (Fresno, Calif.) is now the leading Western rider in Region I. Jones now leads sophomore teammate Elissa Lane (Bakersfield, Calif.) by three points (48-to-45) in the seasons points race. Lane had led the region in points the entire season up to this point.
Bernardi rides away with top individual honors
Junior Dina Bernardi (Salinas, Calif.) rode away from the National Invitational Classic in South Carolina on Dec. 5, as the overall individual champion. Bernardi took first place in the championship class, which was comprised of the first place riders from all open, intermediate and novice classes. In order to qualify for the championship class, Bernardi placed first in Open Equitation Flat earlier in the day. Bernardi also placed fifth in Open Equitation over Fences.
Bulldogs receive two more invitations
After a successful performance on Dec. 5, in South Carolina, Fresno State received invitations from the University of Tennessee and the University of New Mexico to compete in upcoming equestrian shows. The Bulldogs, if they decide to accept the invitations, will compete in Tennessee at the end of January, 1999 and in New Mexico in March, 1999.
