No. 38 Women's Tennis Upsets No. 19 South Alabama

Fresno, Calif. - The 38th-ranked Fresno State womens tennis team upset 19th-ranked South Alabama, 5-4, at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center today.
With the score tied 4-4, Fresno State gained the clinching point of the match with a victory at No. 1 doubles by senior Dora Djilianova and sophomore Liesl Fichtbauer. The Bulldog duo pulled-off an upset of 2nd-ranked Martina Ondrejkova and Iva Puflerova of South Alabama, 8-6. The win gave Djilianova and Fichtbauer their first win over a ranked opponent this season.
Djilianova also defeated Ondrejkova in at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Fresno State held a 4-2 lead going into doubles thanks to a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, victory by senior Shana Peete over South Alabamas Marketa Blazkova at No. 5. Freshman Ewa Grusiecka earned her first career singles victory with a win over Caroline Toyre of South Alabama, 7-5, 6-1.
In addition, Djilianova was named Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor championships last week. Djilianova reached the quarterfinals after upsetting 7th-ranked Julie Ditty of Vanderbilt and 31st-ranked Anita Kurimay of Cal. She also had a dual match win over 13th-ranked Ditta Huber of USC.
