Team captures high point honors at UC Davis
Fresno State earned a double dose of high points on Saturday in Davis, Calif. Both the English and Western teams earned high point honors after several fine performances. The ?Dogs earned seven first place ribbons out of a possible 12 opportunities during the English show. Sophomore Malia Oglesby was the English reserve high point rider, taking second in the Open Flat and first in the novice fences. During the Western show, sophomore Becky Beckman was awarded the reserve high point rider with a first place finish in Open Reining and second in Open Stock Seat. The Western team took three first place ribbons and three second place ribbons en route to its high point win. The road trip to UC Davis was a huge success. Besides earning high point honors, 40 women were able to participate in competition, by far the largest group to attend a show on the road this season. Barbie Wiborg took third in Advanced Stock Seat II on Saturday which now moves her up into the Open Stock Seat section. Freshman Ellen Lynch, traveling with the team for the first time in her collegiate career, captured first place in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter and second in Intermediate Stock Seat I.
Change in Schedule
A double western show at Reedley College, scheduled for February 5th, has been changed to March 11th. The Tournament of Champions at New Mexico State is also scheduled for that day.
Holiday Cheer
Over the holidays, members of the team spread the good spirit by joining up to collect toys and coats for charitable funds. First the team gathered toys for a program called Toys for Tots that occurs annually during Christmas time. Toys such as Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels cars, and Toy Story figurines were donated to provide a special Christmas to underpriviledged children. The team also participated in the annual Coats for Kids program. The team accumulated and delivered more than 50 coats to Kastner Intermediate School for families in need of such apparell.
