Fresno State vs. UTEP
Jan. 15, 2000
Don Haskins Center
El Paso, Texas
--- The victory by UTEP is its fourth in a row over Fresno State. The Miners now hold a 6-3 lead in the all-time series between the two schools.
--- This was the first Bulldog game to go into overtime since FS lost to SMU 70-66 in the North Gym during the 1997-98 season. They have not won an overtime game since the 1992-93 season, when FS beat Sacramento State 105-103 in double overtime in the 1992-93 season.
--- For the first time this season, four freshman started for the Bulldogs. Lindsay Logan and Laura Garcia started as guards and Tiffany Simon and Omelogo Udeze started as forwards. Junior forward Amanda Baker rounded out Fresno State?s lineup.
--- Both teams had trouble shooting in the first half. UTEP was only 36 percent (8 of 22) in the opening stanza. The Bulldogs had even more shooting woes than the Miners, hitting on just 27 percent (10 of 37) of their first half shots, including misses on all eight three-point attempts.
--- Both UTEP and Fresno State suited up only eight players each.
--- The Bulldogs are now 3-5 in WAC openers. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak against conference openers.
--- The Bulldogs missed their first 10 three-pointers of the game before Amanda Baker went for a trifecta with 11:02 remaining in the second half.
--- The 25 points Laura Garcia scored were her career high. It also tied the most a FS player has scored in a single game this year. Amanda Baker scored 25 in a loss to San Diego earlier this season.
--- The Bulldogs shot only 33 percent in the game. That is the lowest shooting percentage they have shot in a game this season.
--- UTEP had 27 turnovers overall, but only nine in the second half and overtime combined. The Miners also shot 67 percent in overtime, compared to only 29 percent for Fresno State.
