Equestrian Wins Big at Davis

The Bulldogs traveled to U.C. Davis on Saturday, Dec. 9, scored eight first place finishes and brought home High Point honors for both the English and Western Categories.
Fresno State captured 29 points in the English events and 28 points in the Western events. IN the English category, Davis was in second with 23 points and Stanford in third with 20. The runner-up in the Western category was Davis with 16 points and Stanford in third with 15.
In the English category, freshman Michelle Tonello (Santa Paula, Calif.) placed first in the Open Fences and second in section I of the Open Flat. Tonello also scored the Reserve High point rider honor. Senior Erin Tooms (Clovis, Calif.) took the first place in section II of the Open Flat. Junior Krista Preckel (San Diego, Calif.) grabbed the number two spot in the Intermediate Fences and fourth in the Intermediate Flat. Assistant Coach Kristina Spackman (American Fork, Utah) scored third in the Alumni Flat.
For the Western team, junior Stacy Steinhoff (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) scored first place for the Open Reining and second for the Open Rail. Steinhoff was also the High Point rider and junior Janine Hunt won the Reserve High point rider honor. Senior Lindsay Cummings (Hailey, Idaho) took second in section I of the Intermediate II. Freshman Amy Reed (Grand Rapids, Mich.) took the first in section I of the Walk/Jog.
Four riders also qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Regional Finals. Lindsay Cummings in the Western Intermediate II, Krista Preckel in the English Intermediate Fences, Kim Dellar in the Enlish Novice Flat and Kristin Darrell in the English Novice Flat, have qualified for the IHSA Zone 8 Regional Finals.
The 'Dogs will break from competition until Saturday, Jan. 6, where they will again travel to U.C. Davis.
