FRESNO, Calif. - Gillian d'Hondt had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Pacific held the Bulldogs to 39 percent shooting on its way to a 67-57 victory over Fresno State at the North Gym. The loss, FS's fourth consecutive, drops its record to 2-6 while the Tigers improve to 5-4.
Fresno State was playing without starting center Channan High, who missed the game after having her wisdom teeth removed Tuesday. With one of the WAC's most intimidating inside players out of commission, Pacific used its height to its advantage, outrebounding the Bulldogs 46-35.
Pacific held the lead for nearly the entire game, although it took the Tigers until near the end of the first half to open up a sizable advantage. They went up 34-25 with 2:13 remaining in the opening stanza when Nancy Dinges made a three-pointer. Pacific took the nine-point lead into the intermission.
Fresno State was able to get as close as five points with 11:49 to go in regulation when Omelogo Udeze made a layup. But four minutes later, the Tigers increased their advantage to 11, and the Bulldogs were never able to get back in it.
Along with d'Hondt, Pacific also got a strong effort from Selena Ho, who had 18 points and was 5-of-11 from three-point range. Dolinda Meeker added 10.
For the Bulldogs, Lindsay Logan, Mindy Clark and Omelogo Udeze all had 12 points. For Logan, it was the eighth time in eight games she has scored in double figures. But the night belonged to Clark, who was making her first start of the season. The freshman's 12 points was a career high, as was her nine rebounds and two blocks. She also played a season-high 33 minutes.
Next for Fresno State is a trip to Boise, Idaho, to take on Boise State (2-4) on Saturday at 6 p.m. PST.
