FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Tito Maddox scored 20 points to lead Fresno State to a 85-69 victory against Louisiana-Lafayette in the championship game of the Trend Homes Classic on Wednesday night.
Maddox, playing his second game for Fresno State (8-2), also had a game high nine assists. Chris Jefferies added 16 for Fresno and Shannon Swillis had 13.
Anthony Johnson led Louisiana-Lafayette (3-3) with 21 points and Blane Harmon added 20 points.
Fresno State took a 46-36 halftime lead behind Maddox's 11 points and 10 from Jefferies.
Fresno State hit on 10 of its first 15 shots in the second half to turn a 10-point margin into a 66-48 lead with just over 11 minutes left in the game. Maddox's three-point play with 7:15 left gave the Bulldogs a 74-52 lead, but then they went cold.
Louisiana-Lafayette ran off 10-straight points over the next two minutes while Fresno was missing three straight one-and-one opportunities at the free throw line. Johnson made eight of those points before Maddox hit two free throws with 4:32 left in the game to end the drought.
