FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Melvin Ely had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead Fresno State to an 84-59 victory over South Carolina State on Thursday night.
Chris Jefferies added 17 points and Demetrius Porter had 10 for Fresno State (10-2).
Greg Gray led South Carolina State (4-8) with 14 points but also had 12 turnovers. Najia Taylor added 10 points for South Carolina State.
Fresno State took control of the game in the final seven minutes of the first half. Trailing by four, Fresno scored 12 straight points over the next three minutes to go up 25-17.
Dexter Hall ended South Carolina State's scoring drought with a layup, but Fresno finished the half with an 11-6 run for a 36-24 lead.
Gray opened the second half with a basket for South Carolina State but Fresno State then went on a 19-5 run to take a 55-31 lead with just less than 14 minutes left in the game.
Fresno State led by as many as 35 points and cleared its bench midway through the second half.
Fresno State won its fourth straight game since point guard Tito Maddox became eligible, and sixth straight overall. Maddox, who averaged over 18 points in his first three games, had four points and four assists.
