Spring Season Kicks Off in Honolulu

FRESNO, Calif. - Heading to Hawai'i
The Bulldogs (Todd Rose, Danny Paniccia, Ryan King, Josh Watney and Mike Louden) head to Honolulu to compete in the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' & Beach Club. This 24- team event includes 11 of Golfstat's Head to Head top 30 ranked teams such as Georgia Tech (first), Arizona State (5th), Stanford (6th), Washington (14th) and Southern California (15th). Fresno State is currently ranked 13th in the Golfstat poll. Tournament format consists of 54 hole stroke play scoring the top four from each team.
Golfstat Head-to-Head Standings
Currently the Bulldogs are ranked 13th in the Golfstat Head-to-Head standings with 974.32 points. Just ahead of the `Dogs is BYU who is 12th. Georgia Tech is 1st followed by North Western and Clemson.
Bulldogs in Golfweek Magazine District VII Poll
The Bulldogs are ranked second in District VII heading into Spring season competition according to the Golfweek Magazine poll. The Bulldogs follow No. 1 ranked BYU. New Mexico is third followed by Colorado State and San Diego State.
MasterCard Collegiate Poll
The Bulldogs are ranked 18th in the MasterCard Collegiate Poll with 94 votes. Clemson is first with 338 votes followed by Georgia (317) and Georgia Tech (315). BYU is ranked eighth with 227 votes.
Fall Wrap-Up
The Bulldogs had a telling Fall winning two tournaments, the 18-team Wolf Pack Classic (282-295-278--855) and the Pacific Match-Play Intercollegiate. The `Dogs came in second in the 20-team Nelson at Stanford with the to-date season lowest combined team score of 289-274-285--848 and took second at the Fresno Lexus Classic behind Lexus Classic champion BYU. The Bulldogs took sixth in their season opener the Husky Invitational.
Bulldogs Breaking New Ground
Todd Rose marked his career lowest round at the Fresno Lexus Classic this Fall shooting 66 in the third round (73-70-66--209). Rose earned three top 10 finishes this Fall (out of four tournaments) one of which was a third place showing at the Nelson at Stanford. Ryan King and Danny Paniccia earned four top 20 finishes in each of the four tournaments the Bulldogs played in this Fall. King and Paniccia tie for top 20 finishes in their career with 14 (which is also the active career record for the Bulldogs). King holds three top 5 finishes (which leads the current Bulldogs) while Paniccia earned his first top 5 finish at the Wolf Pack Classic this Fall.
Fall Dean's List
The 1999 Fall semester Dean's List honors Josh Watney for his academic achievements during the Fall semester. Watney earned All-America Scholar accolades last season as well as WAC Scholar Athlete and Fresno State Scholar Athlete honors. Watney is also the only active Bulldog to claim a tournament win. During his freshman season (1996-97) Watney won the 49er Collegiate Classic shooting a career best 67-69-70--206 he was also the only Bulldog last year to make the individual cut at the NCAA Championships and play all four rounds.
