FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Courtney Alexander scored 34 points to lead Fresno State to a 98-93 Western Athletic Conference victory over TCU Sunday.
Alexander, who missed Fresno State's last game with a hip injury, scored 20 points in the second half for the Bulldogs (17-9 overall, 7-3 WAC).
Marquise Gainous led TCU (15-13, 6-6) with 35 points.
Larry Abney, coming off a 20-point, 35-rebound performance on Thursday night in a 85-75 loss to SMU, scored 18 points and had a game high 13 rebounds for Fresno.
Terrance Roberson also had 18 for Fresno, while Demetrius Porter scored 16.
Ryan Carroll had 19 for TCU while Vladimir Jaksic scored 14 and Bingo Merriex had 13.
Roberson and Alexander each scored six points as Fresno opened the second half with a 14-7 run to lead by five. But TCU ran off eight straight points to lead 56-53 with 14:32 left in the game.
Alexander hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start a 20-7 run over the next five minutes giving Fresno a 73-63 lead. Gainous ignited a TCU comeback with nine points in a 12-5 run, cutting the lead to three points with just less than five minutes left in the game.
The Horned Frogs pulled within three points three more times, the last with 11 seconds remaining as Jaksic made three 3-pointers in the final minute, but they got no closer.
Porter hit four of five free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
