Swimming and Diving Finish Fourth in WAC Championship Meet

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs return home from San Antonio, Texas with a fourth place finish in the WAC Championship meet earning 481 points. The Bulldogs broke six school records and return to Fresno State with one WAC Champion and All-WAC honoree Summir Case who took first in the 100 back (55.99).
SMU won the meet with 886.50 points, Hawai'i took second with 675.5 points, Rice placed third with 582.5 points and San Jose State came in fifth (384) followed by sixth place TCU (359.5).
Jesie Lewis broke a seven-year standing school record in the 100 free with a 51.58 sixth place finish. The record was previously set by Carrie Bennett in 1993. Lena Darnell placed 12th with a 52.01 finish and Heidi Crompton finished 15th with a time of 52.71.
The 400 free relay team, legged by Jesie Lewis, Heidi Crompton, Lena Darnell, and Summir Case, broke their own standing school record set last season placing fourth in the 2000 WAC meet and earning a Fresno State school record time of 3:28.23. Last season these same Bulldogs set the record at 3:29.46.
Julie Enright took sixth in the 1650 free leading the Bulldogs squad with a time of 17:04.98- a new season-best time for Fresno State. Sara Quinn was right behind taking seventh with a time of 17:06.79. Deanna Braun placed 11th (17:25.26) and Jessica Klenner took 12th (17:27.70).
Summir Case placed sixth in the in the 200 back with a new Bulldog season-best with 2:04.21. Bethany Starkweather placed ninth with 2:06.64.
Heather King finished the 200 breast in seventh place with a time of 2:21.27- a new Bulldog season-best time. Jennifer Brown finished 13th (2:23.15) and Rebecca Coplin finished 16th with a time of 2:29.79.
In the 200 fly Temple Cowden finished seventh with a time of 2:06.28. Laurel Frisinger placed 11th (2:08.13) and Jessica Klenner took 14th (2:10.56).
Lindsay Taunton finished seventh in platform diving scoring 284.95 points.
NCAA qualifiers will be released Monday, Feb. 28.
