FRENSO, Calif. - No. 13 ranked Fresno State is seven strokes behind first place No. 7 ranked BYU and six strokes behind No. 5 ranked Arizona State in the 14-team USC/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate, being played at the North Ranch Country Club (a 73.0 rated course), after 36 holes of play.
With a shot-gun start at 7:30 a.m., the Bulldogs battled through the day to earn a combined team score of 578 on the 71-par course. BYU boasts a score of 571 and Arizona State holds a score of 572.
Ryan LaVoie from Oregon is leading the tournament holding a 36-hole score of 69-70--139.
Todd Rose leads the Bulldogs in individual play scoring a 71-71--142 in his first day of competition and tying for fourth place.
Danny Paniccia follows Rose with a score of 74-69--143, tying for eighth place, after sinking a shot from 170 yards for an eagle on hole one.
Ryan King scored a 36-hole total of 72-72--144 tying for 11th place followed by teammate Mike Louden who scored a 73-76--149 putting him in a tied 34th position. Nick Watney joined the Bulldogs for his fourth tournament on the season scoring 78-77--155. Watney is currently tied for 63rd.
"These guys continue to play well," head coach Mike Watney said of the Bulldog squad. "We are looking forward to challenging these top-ranked teams again tomorrow."
The Intercollegiate resumes tomorrow for the final 18 holes at 7:30 a.m. Results will be posted that evening.
