Golf Finishes Third at Morris Williams Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. -
The No. 5 Fresno State Bulldogs finished the Morris Williams Invitational in third place with a team score of 294-302-290--886. No. 9 BYU took first after a tie-breaking playoff hole against No. 10 UNLV. Both earned a three-round total of 881.
No. 7 Oklahoma State took fourth with a total of 889 and No. 8 Houston tied for fifth with No. 16 New Mexico with a score of 891.
Individually Joel Hendry of New Mexico took first place at the tournament with a three-round total of 69-72-70--211. Andy Miller of BYU took second, 72-70-70--212.
Bulldog Ryan King, who currently ranks 51st nationally as an individual, took fifth with a score of 72-71-75--218, two-over-par. Teammate Todd Rose came in sixth with a score of 75-75-69--219. This is the third top-five season finish for King (4th career). He leads the active Bulldogs in top five and top 20 finishes placing in the top 20 in all seven tournaments the Bulldogs have competed in this year. Both King and Rose are in line to break Fresno State's all-time lowest season average per-round that is currently held by Tim Norris with a 1980 season average of 71.89. King currently holds an 71.71 average on the season and Rose holds a 71.86 average.
Nick Watney earned his first Bulldog career top 20 finish at the Morris Williams Invitational tying for 18th with a score of 74-78-72--224.
"Having three of our guys finish in the top 20 against teams of this calibur is tremendous," head coach Mike Watney said. "I'm very proud of all of them."
Danny Paniccia tied for 31st with a score of 74-78-74--226. Josh Watney placed 40th with a three-round total of 74-79-75--228. Mike Louden, competing as an individual, finished in a six-way tie for 45th with a score of 79-77-75--231.
