Golf in Third Place at ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs finished two rounds of play in third place at the ASU Thunderbird/ Savane Invitational with a score of 282-287--569. Freshman Nick Watney, who is tied for fifth after two rounds of play with a score of 70-71--141, will tee off in the leader group as competition resumes tomorrow.
Tournament host and 1999 Thunderbird Invitational champion Arizona State is currently in first place with a score of 281-286--567, followed by New Mexico with a 288-280--568 score. Arizona is in fourth with a two-round total of 570 and Oregon is in fifth with a score of 573.
In individual play Arizona State's Paul Casey and Swedish National's Rickard Sundgren are in first both scoring a two-round total of 69-69--138.
For the Bulldogs, Nick Watney leads with his fifth place 141 score followed by Todd Rose (69-74) and Josh Watney (72-71) who are in a four-way tie for15th with a two-round total of 143. Ryan King is tied for 19th with a score of 71-73--144 and Danny Paniccia currently ties for 27th with his 73-72--145 score.
"We are playing very solid golf," head coach Mike Watney said. "Nick Watney is playing in the leader group tomorrow which is quite an experience to ever have particularly as a freshman. I am very proud of him."
