Golf in 10th Place Heading Into Final Round

FRESNO, Calif. -
Fresno State split the four-way tie for ninth place between TCU, Clemson, Auburn and the Bulldogs today settling in the No. 10 spot heading into the fourth and final round of the NCAA Division I Championship tournament. The Bulldogs scored their lowest round of the tournament with a 279 and now hold team score of 293-285-279--857 (-7). The No. 4 Bulldogs, after finishing the first round of the NCAA Division I Golf Championships in 20th (+5), made a surge for the top 15 during the second round finishing in a tie for 9th making the 15-team cut to play the final two rounds and now are 25 away from tournament leader Oklahoma State with a score of 281-276-276--833 (-31). Texas is in second with 272-286-279--837 (-27) and Georgia Tech is in third with a score of 280-282-278--840 (-24).
"We are pretty pleased with how we played today," head coach Mike Watney said. "We gave a few back that we shouldn't have but overall it was a good day."
Fresno State's senior Josh Watney had the Bulldogs' low round of the day with a 69 (-3). He totals a three-round score of 75-71-69--215 (-1). Freshman Nick Watney and seniors Danny Paniccia and Ryan King all tied at 70 (-2) for the third round. Watney holds a three-round total of 72-79-70--221 (+5). Paniccia holds a score of 71-74-70--215 (-1) and Ryan King holds a three-day total of 75-70-70--215 (-1) tying Josh Watney in individual play at 36. Todd Rose finished the third round with a 72 compiling a score of 77-70-72--219 (+3).
Individually, Charles Howell, of Oklahoma State, leads the tournament with a score of 196 (-20) after shooting a 63 today tying the tournament low-round with David Gossett of Texas who shot a 63 in the first round. .
The 15-team tournament concludes the fourth and final round tomorrow, Saturday, June 3. The top 15 teams and scores are as follows:
