Fresno State Volleyball Takes Fourth Straight From Alumni

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2000 Fresno State volleyball team took a four-game victory (10-15, 15-8, 15-10, 15-12) from the Alumni to extend their win streak to four straight and boast a 4-2 series lead at the Sixth Annual Volleyball Alumni match in the North Gym.
Sophomore outside hitter Christy Burnett led all players with 15 kills and posted a team-high 11 digs for the only double-double for the Bulldogs. Yet two other 'Dogs collected double-figure kill performances in junior middle blocker Shauna McQuaid (11) and freshman outside hitter Kara Verwey (10). McQuaid hit a match-high .579 after posting no errors in 19 attack attempts.
After sitting out the last half of her rookie season due to a stress fracture, sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Closs chipped in nine kills and four blocks after hitting .412.
Freshmen middle blocker Carrie Hartt added eight kills and hit .538 to go along with her three blocks.
For the Alumni, outside hitter Tricia Tuley led with a double-double after posting 10 kills and a match-high 13 digs.
Fresno State hit .293 and outblocked the Alumni, 7-2.
The Bulldogs open their 2000 season on the road next weekend at the Brion's Grille/Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va., Sept. 1-2. The 'Dogs will play Siena and Central Michigan on Sept. 1 and close out tournament play with Maryland-Baltimore County and host George Mason the following day.
Fresno State will then return to the North Gym for its home opener. The Bulldogs will host the 14th Annual Fresno State Volleyball Invitational, Sept. 8-9. The two-day five-team tournament field features CS Fullerton, Fresno State, #22 Northern Iowa, UC Riverside and Washington State.
