Cross Country Men Fifth, Women Seventh at Fresno State Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - The Stanford Cardinal took first place in both the men's and women's runs this morning at the Fresno State Invitational. The Stanford men took first place with 28 points as three runners finished in the top five. The Cardinal women clinched first with 16 points with four of their runners finishing in the top five.

Individually, the winner of the men's 8K run was Josh Horton of UC Santa Barbara with a time of 25:14. The women's 6K winner was Elena Villareal of Stanford who crossed the finish line at 21:22.

The Bulldogs finished fifth in the men's 8K run with 146 points. Sophomore Josh Roddy led the way for the Bulldogs finishing 21st (26:26). Sophomore Robert Vaca finished second for Fresno State and 41st overall with a time of 27:37.

The women finished seventh in the women's 6K run with 176 points. The top runner for the women was junior Jennifer Smith who finished in 24th place with a time of 23:41. Freshman Corina Mendoza finished 38th with a time of 24:20.

The Fresno State cross country team returns to action Saturday, September 30th when they take part in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto.
