Equestrian qualifies Five More Riders Over Weekend

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian team took second place both days in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show held at the Student Horse Center this weekend. In addition, the `Dogs had five riders qualify for the regional finals bringing the team total to 17 qualified riders.
On Saturday's show, the Bulldogs had both the High Point and Reserve High Point riders but could not overcome UC Davis. Abby Michael took first place in both the Novice Equitation Over Fences and the Novice Equitation to gain the High Point honors. Reserve High Point was grabbed by Dawn Crawford with her first place in the Open Equitation and third place in the Intermediate Equitation Over Fences. The Bulldogs won six of the 11 events, and claimed 17 top three finishes.
Fresno State struggled a bit on Sunday, falling to Stanford. The Bulldogs did not take either of the High Point Honors but still won six of the 11 events.
The Bulldogs also added five more riders to their growing list of qualifiers. Danielle Golden, Kelly Samsom, Krista Preckel, Abby Michael and Ashley Howard have now reached the point level need to compete individually at the IHSA Regional Finals which will be hosted by Fresno State on March 24-25.
The `Dogs will travel to Lexington, Ky., to compete in the Tournament of Champions on Saturday, January 27.
