Equestrian Regional Leader After U.C. Davis Win

Fresno, Calif. - The Bulldog equestrian team now stands with a commanding lead in the regional Intercollegiate Horse Show Association standings after both the English and Western teams took High Point honors at U.C. Davis this weekend.
The English team finished with a point total of 35 points and the High Point English rider. Senior Kalli Bowles (Elk Grove, Calif.) took first in the Novice Fences and second in the Intermediate Flat. Top finishes were also taken by senior Sarah Woodward (Fresno, Calif.) in section A of the Open Flat, junior Dawn Crawford (Yucaipa, Calif.) in the Intermediate Fences, sophomore Abigail Brauner (Cupertino, Calif.) in section B of the Novice Flat and freshman Christa Brown (Agoura Hills, Calif.) in section B of the Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter.
The Western team finished with 15 points and the High Point and Reserve High Point Western riders. Junior Kendra McQueen (Stockdale, Calif.) was the High Point rider and the Reserve was junior Rena Miller (Oakhurst, Calif.). Top Western finishes were also claimed by senior Brenn Burtch (Bakersfield, Calif.) in the Advanced II Equitation, senior Willow Wakeland (Stockton, Calif.) in the Intermediate II Equitation section B and senior Katey Woelfel (Los Gatos, Calif.) in the Intermediate II Equitation section A.
Three more riders qualified individually for the IHSA Regional Finals. Brenn Burtch, freshman Sarah Hollebrands (Ojai, Calif.) and senior Ida Ridgeway (Abilene, Texas) have now been added to the Bulldogs' growing list of individual qualifiers.
The `Dogs will take a week off and return to competition on Saturday, Jan. 20. They will host their first IHSA home show since October at the Student Horse Center. The show will start at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.
