Golf Finishes Third at Bakersfield

The golf team finished the final round play today in the Roadrunner Invitational at the Stockdale Country Club. The team finished third in the tournament with a total score of 885. CSU Bakersfield won the tournament with a score of 863. UC Riverside finished second with a score of 869. The team moved up to third from being fourth after two rounds of play Monday afternoon.
Freshman Ian Nelson (Canyon Lake, Calif.) finished second. He was tied for first at the end of the tournament and he went in to sudden death with Brendan Steele of UC Riverside and Mike Mendoza of CSU Northridge. Steele won the trophy and Nelson and Medoza took second. Nelson's final score was 74 -71-66 = 211 (-2).
"Ian Nelson shot a fabulous 66 in the final round," said Head Coach Mike Watney. "He was behind but Ian was able to pick up six strokes to place first."
Sophomore Tony Harmon (Upland, Calif.) finished 20th with a total score of 77-71-74 = 222. Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) finished 36th with a total score of 76 -72 -78 =226. Eric Witherall (Carlsbad, Calif.) finished 41st with a total of 76-76 -75 =227. George McKean finished 60th with a total score of 81-75 -79= 235.
The Stockdale Country Club greens are small and will be rolling 10.5 -11 on the Stimp. The course record is 63 and is a Par 71. The course rating is 70.6 and the slope is 121. The course is 6,410 yards long.
