FRESNO- Calif - The golf team faced Pepperdine on October 8 - 9. The Pepperdine Club Glove Intercollegiate was at the Saticoy Country Club. The Course is Par 72 and is 6,883 yards long. The Course rating is 73.6 and has a 136 slope. The 'Dogs played 36 holes on October 8, and 18 holes on October 9.
Nick Watney, Jonathan Echols, Chad Spencer, Ian Nelson and Dustin Smith made up the five-man team that went to Pepperdine.
The Bulldogs finished their two tournaments at Pepperdine with a total of 891 (+27)to place
Second. The Bulldogs were placed fifth after 36 holes on Monday but worked their way to second.
Pepperdine won the Club Glove with a score of 874(+10). Jason Allred of Pepperdine was the indivivdual winner with a score of 74-67-75-216 (E).
Senior Jonathan Echoles finished second again in Pepperdine after taking second in the Fresno Lexus Golf Classic on October 5-6. His score for the two day event was 74-72-72-218 (+2). Junior Nick Watney finished 9th with a score of 73-78-71-222 (+9). Senior Dustin Smith finished 21st with a score of 72-77-76-225 (+6). Freshman Ian Nelson 41st finished with a score of 81-78-72 -231 (+15). Sophomore Chad Spencer finished 46th with a score 78-81-74-233(+17).
Coach Watney gave the golfers some words of motivation before the tournament but knew that the short amount of time between the Fresno Lexus and the Pepperdine Tournament would be tough on the players.
"You guys beat Stanford and a 16 team field by forty strokes, let's do it again," said Coach Watney.
