FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State battled back from a 10-point second half deficit to defeat The Hansens 85-82 in an exhibition game at the North Gym. Statistics from the game will not count toward season totals.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to play The Firm, but the game was cancelled Saturday morning. The Hansens, a compilation of men's players from Fresno, stepped in and gave Fresno State everything they could handle.
However, in the first half it appeared Fresno State would win going away. The Bulldogs, behind 19 first half points from Lindsay Logan, opened up a 33-16 lead with 6:13 remaining. But The Hansens slowly chipped away and whittled the lead down to eight at halftime.
The Hansens continued their solid play the first 10 minutes of the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 27-11 to grab a 65-55 lead. But Fresno State slowly started to tip the scales to its side, carving the lead down to three points with 4:43 to go. Free throws by Logan with three minutes left tied the game, and a Tiffany Simon 10-foot jumper with 46 seconds left put the Bulldogs ahead for good.
The Hansens had one final chance to tie the game, but former FS assistant coach Brent Hansen's three-pointer with three seconds left was off the mark, giving Fresno State the victory.
"I was pretty happy with the way we played," head coach Britt King said. "We did some things really well, and we did some small things not as well. But this was a great chance for our players to compete against players quicker and taller than they normally compete against."
Logan led all scorers with 23 points. She also added eight assists and four rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs were Laura Garcia (11), Tiffany Simon (10) and Veronica Mack (10).
For The Hansens, Rick Jones had 17 while David Huff added 16.
Fresno State opens up the 2001-02 season against Delaware State on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the North Gym.
