Swimming Maintains Their Third Place Standing Heading Into Final Day

LAS VEGAS - After two days of competition, the Fresno State swimming and diving team is holding strong in third place with 393 points at the UNLV Rebel Swimming Invitational. The event began on Thursday, Nov. 29, versus a field of six teams, including UNLV, San Diego State, Fresno State, Wyoming, New Mexico and Cal State Northridge.
Once again the team performed well, reaching 15 season-bests. Perhaps the most impressive performance on the day was the No. 24 ranked 800 free relay, which surpassed its season-best time of 7:53.87 and slimmed down to 7:48.89. The foursome of freshman Melissa Johnson, senior Jesie Lewis, freshman Minja Mickelsen and junior Jessica Klenner collectively earned the second place finish. Additionally, freshman Carolyn Wigginton swam a season-best and a third place time in the 100 back when she clocked 59.38. All together the team finished in the top 10, 10 times.
The Bulldogs will take to the lanes again today, Saturday, Dec. 1, for the final day of competition. The diving team begins its second of two days at the Brigham Young Diving Invitational today.
Team Results from Day Two of UNLV Invitational"Our team performed outstanding today, said head coach Daniella Irle. "I am very pleased with the 800 relay team. They are continuing to improve and maintain their national status. Saturday is our last day and we must maintain our improvement to keep in third place. I have confidence we will do that."
