QUOTING FRESNO STATE HEAD COACH JERRY TARKANIAN
General Remarks:
"It was tough playing with the crowd fired up and Melvin out. I think if we had been in front of our crowd, we would have played a lot better. At the end I guess we just ran out of gas. Until the last four minutes, I was very pleased with the way we played. Most guys on our squad haven't really played. Chris Jeffries is the only guy with real playing experience. Overall, SDSU had a great ballgame. We got in foul trouble in the first half and we only had three big guys without Melvin."
On SDSU:
"We knew SDSU had some good players. I'm really glad Randy had a good game, him being a former FSU player. We just love Randy. He always wants to play until the game is over, no matter what the score is."
QUOTING SAN DIEGO STATE HEAD COACH STEVE FISHER
General Remarks:
"Well, we feel better than we did on Wednesday night. I didn't realize until Gregg Gottlieb told me this week that last season we followed up a loss to San Diego with a win over Arizona State, another big win for us."
On Fresno State:
"This is a good Fresno State team. I like Jerry Tarkanian. He is a good coach and he thinks this might be his best team up there. Ely certainly figures to change the game but we can't control that."
On Randy Holcomb:
I am happy for Randy. He started up there and I know this was a big game for him."
On The Win:
"It was a big win for us. With a tough game at Hawaii coming up and an Eastern Washington team that beat St. Joe's and lost to Gonzaga in overtime and later Duke. You certainly don't want to go in a spin the other way."
