Two Women's Tennis Players Appear In Latest Rankings

FRESNO, Calif. -- All-American junior Kim Niggemeyer and senior Liesl Fichtbauer were both awarded individual singles rankings in the WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings released today by the ITA National Ranking Committee.
Fichtbauer is ranked No. 28 in the poll. The senior was the top singles player for the Bulldogs during the fall season, posting an impressive 11-2 overall singles mark that included a nine-match win streak. She is 13-3 overall, and has a 2-1 record in three dual matches in the spring. Fichtbauer is currently second on the all-time Fresno State career singles win list with 81 victories behind Dora Djilianova with 129. She won the sixth annual Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Tennis Classic singles championship in October and also advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in November.
Niggemeyer is ranked No. 37. The junior is 9-5 overall this season, and 2-1 in dual match play in the spring. Niggemeyer was recently named WAC women's tennis Player of the Week for matches played during Jan. 22 - 28. The Berlin, Germany, native posted victories against nationally-ranked players in her first two dual matches. She also had a successful fall season, earning a runner-up singles finish at the Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic and teaming with Simone Jardim to win the doubles championship of the same tournament. Niggemeyer went 7-4 overall in singles competition during the fall, and was 5-1 in doubles play.
In other news, the Bulldog's home match against UC Santa Barbara on Sun., Feb. 18 has been moved to 12 p.m. The match was originally scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
