Fresno State Takes Care Of San Jose State

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Melvin Ely scored 14 points to lead No. 23 Fresno State to an easy 82-57 victory over San Jose State on Thursday night.
Tito Maddox had 11 points and eight assists, Chris Jefferies 11 points, and Shannon Swillis and Dennis Nathan 10 points each in the balanced scoring attack for Fresno State (19-3, 8-1 WAC).
The Bulldogs, who extended their home winning streak to 12 games, dominated from the start and led by as many as 29 in the second half before coach Jerry Tarkanian went to his reserves.
Corey Powell scored 11 points, and Darnell Williams and Marion Thurmond each had 10 for the Spartans (10-11, 2-8).
Fresno State took a 20-6 lead in the first 10 minutes as Maddox, Jefferies and Travis DeManby hit consecutive 3-pointers to cap 13-0 run.
Billy Landrum's three-point play momentarily slowed the run, but Bulldogs reserve Dennis Nathan sparked a 16-4 spurt by scoring seven points as Fresno State led 38-19 at halftime.
