FRESNO, Calif. - No. 9 Fresno State softball will have to wait one more day to open its 2001 schedule. Rain has cancelled the season opener at Cal Poly for Saturday, Feb. 10, and the Bulldogs will look to open their season at home against No. 22 Long Beach State (4-4) on Sunday, Feb. 11.
Saturday's doubleheader against the Mustangs was scheduled to be the opening of Cal Poly's new 826-seat softball stadium, the Bob Janssen Field.
No make-up date has been announced.
The non-conference doubleheader against the 49ers will start at 1:00 p.m. at Bulldog Diamond. In season openers, Fresno State owns a 14-8 mark and is 10-4 under head coach Margie Wright, who enters her 16th season with Bulldogs and is the NCAA's all-time winningest coach with a 941-304-3 (.755) record in 21 years. At home, Fresno State owns an 18-4 record in home openers and is 11-3 under Wright.
