#11 Softball Drops Night Cap to #22 Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - No. 11 Fresno State (21-10) endured it first doubleheader sweep on the season after dropping a 4-1 decision to No. 22 Pacific (26-5) in the nightcap.
The Bulldogs struck quickly as they put up a run in the top of the second inning. Lindsay Fossatti led the inning off with a walk. Alicia Dowland then followed with a RBI double to left field as the ball rolled to the fence.
With starter Leslie Poole retiring the first nine batters faced in order, Pacific answered back with a three-run frame in the bottom of the fourth. With on out, Poole walked Natalie Farmer and then yielded a hit up the middle to Adrienne Ratajczak as Tiger runners were on first and second. Lindsay Foster then came in to relieve poole and got the next batter to fly out to deep right. However, both runners advanced a base to be in scoring positions. Estee Okumura, the Tiger's top hitter, had a two-out two RBI single into right field and Okumura advanced to second on the throw home. Okumura advanced to third on a pass ball before Boni Kading picked up her with a RBI single up the middle to score the third run of the inning.
With Poole returning to the game and getting the final out in the fourth, she surrendered a run in the bottom of the fifth. Erica Reynolds led the fifth off with a double to right center and Nicole Inouye came in to pinch run. After being sacrificed over to third, Barbara Moody connected for a RBI single up the middle.
Fresno State scored one run on five hits while Pacific scored four runs on five hits and had two errors.
The Bulldogs open Western Athletic Conference play this Saturday, March 24, at Loyola Marymount. The conference doubleheader is set for a 1,00 p.m. start. The doubleheader will not be broadcasted on the web.
