Equestrian English Wins Champion Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldog equestrian English team scored top honors at in the first half of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Region 1 finals being hosted at Fresno State's Student Horse Center.
The Bulldogs won five of the eight events, claiming 10-top three finishes. The `Dogs finished first with UC Davis taking second.
Junior Sarah Woodward started off the day right with a win in the Open Equitation over Fences. Woodward brought in a bookend performance taking third in the last event of the day, the Open Equitation on the Flat.
Fellow juniors Dawn Crawford and Krista Preckel followed Woodward's strong lead. Crawford won the champion honors in the Intermediate Equitation over Fences and the Open Equitation on the Flat. Preckel was champion in the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat and took third in the Intermediate Equitation over Fences.
Freshman Michelle Tonello was also showing the skills that qualified her for the finals. Tonello claimed a second in the Open Equitation on the Flat. Preceding Tonello's performance, sophomore Michaela Mathis also claimed Reserve Champion in the Novice Equitation over Fences.
Not letting the underclassmen do all the work, senior Ida Ridgeway claimed champion in the Walk/Trot Equitation with sophomore Danielle Golden stepping up with a reserve champion finish in the same event.
The Finals will continue tomorrow with the Western Category. The Bulldog Western team showcases the Regional Reserve Champion Kendra McQueen who will compete in two of tomorrow's events. The show will begin at 10 a.m.
