FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Western team finished off the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Region 1 finals hosted at the Student Horse Center this weekend.
The Western team has already claimed the team title, but this weekend was about individual victories. The Bulldogs claimed seven top-three finishes, winning one event.
Regional Reserve Champion Kendra McQueen grabbed two third-place finishes. McQueen took third in the Open Western Horsemanship and Open Reining Pattern. McQueen claimed the Champion Honors after her performance at Reedley on March 18.
Winning the lone championship ride was senior Lindsay Cummings who won the Intermediate Western Horsemanship class. Following close behind to sweep high honors in that class was fellow senior Kalli Bowles who won the Reserve Champion of that Class.
Three other Bulldogs took home Reserve Champion honors. Senior Brenn Burtch in the Advanced Western Horsemanship, and juniors Janine Hunt in the Open Western Horsemanship and Stacy Steinhoff in the Open Reining Pattern.
Both of the Bulldog Western and English teams will now prepare for the Zone 8 Championships, which will be held on April 7 in Provo, Utah. If they continue their strong performances they will then be on their way to the National Finals being held in Conyers, Ga. On May 3-6.
