#7 Softball Bounces Back for Second Tournament Win

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 7 Fresno State (12-3) bounced back from an early tournament loss to capture a 2-1 victory over No. 11 DePaul in the night cap.
The Bulldogs, who scored two runs on six hits and had one error, scored first with a run in the bottom of the first. Vanessa Czarnecki was induced into a ground out but notched a RBI after Becky Witt led the inning off with a double and advanced to third on an error by Blue Demon's left fielder.
DePaul, who tallied six hits with two errors, picked up a run in the top of the fifth inning on a RBI double by Gina Ramacci.
With the game tied a 1-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and runners on first and third, Tiffany Whipple came through again with a RBI single into left center for the game-winning hit. Courtney Rathjens, who came in to pinch run for Pam West after West led the inning off with a single down the left field line, scored the winning run for the Bulldogs.
Lori Hoffman made her first collegiate start and got the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. Hoffman went the distance and gave up one run, no walks and struck out five.
Fresno State will meet Colorado State (1 pm) and Oregon State (3 pm) tomorrow afternoon in day three of the 2001 Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Classic.
