Golf Jumps to Finish 18th in Arizona

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State moved passed Oregon and Oregon State to finish 18th at the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational hosted at the Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 7,026 yards) in Tempe, Ariz. Saturday.
The Bulldogs were 20th after the first day of competition but shot 289 to finish 880 overall. The hosting Sun Devils won the tournament with 839 and Texas in second at 291. Anders Hultman from Oklahoma State won the tournament with a 69-68-69-206.
The top finisher for the `Dogs was sophomore Nick Watney who placed T35th. Watney started slow but had comeback second and third rounds of 68-69 to finish 215. Watney was tied for 60th place after the first day of competition.
Junior Dustin Smith also shot a comeback third round. Smith shot a 70 giving him a 216 and a tie for 41st place. Fellow junior Jonathon Echols finished at T63rd after shooting 69-74-76-219.
Sophomore Daniel Timmons finished at T105 shooting 80-79-74-233. Finishing off the Bulldog lineup was Freshman Chad Spencer who tied at 111 and shot 80-76-81-237.
The Bulldogs will now have to prepare for their final tournament of the season before WAC Championships. The `Dogs will travel to Provo, Utah to compete in the Ben Hogan Cougar Classic on April 20-21. Brigham Young will host the tournament at the Riverside Country Club.
