FRESNO, Calif. - Three Fresno State track and field members participated in the U.S. Track and Field Championships this past weekend. Two of the three athletes placed in the top 16, while the third did not advance to the finals.
Sophomore, Crystal Simmons from Barstow, Calif., finished 13th in the women's triple jump with a 39-3 mark in the U.S. Track and Field Outdoor Championships on Saturday. Simmons ranks first in the triple jump on the career leaders list at Fresno State with a 42-10 /14 leap.
All-American senior, Ryan Beckenhauer tossed a 59-10 1/4 in the men's shot put, Friday, June 22 at the championships. His distance established him 16th place overall in the men's shot put. The Reedley native now ranks No. 2 in Fresno State history and became the second Bulldog in Fresno State history to accomplish this feat in men's shot put.
Freshman distance runner Kara June, from Santa Maria, clocked a time of 11:32.71 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Track and Field Championships on Thursday. The time placed her 14th in her heat but was not enough to advance her to the finals. June was the WAC leader in the steeplechase and also holds the Warmerdam Field record.
"It is a great teacher to compete with the world's best athletes," Head coach Bob Fraley said. This was a good experience for all three athletes. "At an event like this they can learn what they have to do to get better."
