Academic All-WAC Spring Team Announced

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2001 academic All-WAC spring sport teams have been announced and Fresno State was well represented with 36 Bulldogs selected. Student-athletes from baseball, golf, softball, tennis and track and field who met the qualifications were honored. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in a least fifty percent of the team's contests.
The Fresno State women's track and field team had the most student-athletes honored with 12 athletes meeting the award qualifications. Fresno State's softball team led the conference for their sport with a total of six student-athletes earning honors.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams were among the top in the conference having four men and five women distinguished. The men's track and field team produced five student-athletes to the list, the baseball team recognized two athletes and one men's golfer was honored.
"We are always very proud of our student-athletes accomplishments both on and off the field," said Interim Athletics Director Scott Johnson. "We have a great tradition of student-athletes excelling in the classroom and I want to congratulate these outstanding individuals for such a great honor."
