Men's Team Heads to Stanford Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - STANFORD INVITATIONAL
The men's cross country team will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29. Last year the Bulldogs took 14th place in the 18-team meet. Junior Josh Roddy (Manteca, Calif.) led the team, finishing 24th with a time of 26:02. Stanford took first place at the meet with 28 points. The next best team was UC Santa Barbara with 118 points.
FRESNO STATE INVITATIONAL CANCELLED
The 37th Annual Fresno State Invitational was cancelled due to the tragic events which occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 11, in New York City and throughout the nation. All Fresno State athletic events were canceled or postponed, including football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer and women's basketball. Last year at the Fresno State Invitational the Bulldogs took fifth place with 146 points. Fresno State's top finisher was junior Roddy who finished 21st overall with a time of 26:26. Junior Roberto Vaca (Sanger, Calif.) came in second for the 'Dogs and 41st overall, crossing the finish line at 27:37. Stanford captured first place with 28 points and had three runners finish in the top-five. Josh Horton of UC Santa Barbara came in first place with a time of 25:14.
MEN TAKE SEVENTH AT UC IRVINE
The men's cross country team took seventh place with 208 points at the UC Irvine-Asics Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8. The meet was the first for the 2001 squad. Fresno State's top finisher in the 8K was junior Roosevelt Cook (Oakhills, Calif.) who took 25th with a time of 26:52. Vaca came in next for the 'Dogs, 37th overall, with a time of 27:18. Junior Alex Mason (Alameda, Calif.) finished third on the team, 43rd overall, with a time of 27:31. Northern Arizona won the 16-team invitational with 33 points, followed by Arizona State (46) and Cal Poly (58).
FRESNO STATE TAKES CONTROL OF WATERMELON RUN
The men's cross country team had a strong showing at the 36th annual Watermelon Run held Saturday, Sept. 1, on Fresno State's campus. The men entered 15 runners in the 1-mile race and every Bulldog finished in the top-20. 17 Fresno State runners finished in the top-26 in the 4-mile run.
4-MILE RACE RESULTS
Newcomer Joshua Foster (Moraja, Calif.) finished first on the team in the four mile run, coming in fourth place with a time of 20:47. Moses Avila (Reedley, Calif.) took fifth place with a time of 20:48. Roddy , Mason , Vaca , Kyle Cirrincione (Fresno, Calif.), Thiago Ghilardi (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Phil Ogilvie (Clarksburg, Calif.) and Mike Azevedo (Hanford, Calif.) came in seventh through 13th place, respectively.
