Equestrian Wins Western Show

FRESNO, Calif. -
The Fresno State equestrian team completed the second day of the English/Western show held at the Student Horse Center located on Woodrow Ave. just north of Shaw Ave.
Fresno State won the Western event today with 18 points. UC Davis was the reserve champion with 15 points. Cal Poly and Nevada finished with seven points each. Yesterday's winner Bakersfield College finished with four points and Reedley College earned three points.
With the Western team's win, the Bulldogs maintain their lead in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Region 1 standings. The team has 99 points followed by UC Davis with 83. The English team leads the Miller's Collegiate Cup Region 1 standings with 171 points followed by Bakersfield with 129.
Besides Fresno State being the High Point team today, Bulldog junior Jennifer Levenfeld (Hollister, Calif.) was the High Point rider. She placed first in the Open Stock Seat and Open Reining classes.
"Overall we did well," head coach Megan Megee said, "especially since this was the first show for many of the freshman riders."
Sophomore Christy Webb (Lodi, Calif.) placed second in the Advanced Western Horsemanship II class which allowed her to qualify for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Regionals. Fellow Bulldog senior Stephanie Reeves (Menlo Park, Calif.) also qualified as she placed fifth in the Intermediate Western Horsemanship II class.
Other Bulldogs who garnered high placings today are as follows:
*Senior Kate Hartman (Boise, Idaho) who placed first in the Advanced Western Horsemanship II class.
*Freshman Sarah Schneider (Novato, Calif.) placed first in the Advanced Western Horsemanship I.
*Junior Kelly Sansom (Clovis, Calif.) placed first in the Intermediate Western Horsemanship II class.
