FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State swimming and diving team was defeated by visiting Oregon State, 151-143, on Saturday, Jan. 26.
Highlighting the meet for the Bulldogs were freshmen Ashleigh Raley and Carolyn Wigginton, and junior Jessica Klenner. Raley, who finished first and third in the diving events, scored a Fresno State record in the 1-meter event. Her score of 290.85 also earned a first place finish and a NCAA qualifying mark. She finished third in the 3-meter with 234.60 points. Wigginton clocked a personal-best 58.69 in the 100 backstroke event and 2:08.29 in the 200 back for her two first place captures. Klenner timed two personal-best along with her two second place finishes. She first clocked a 17:38.65 in the 1650 free and completed her day with a 500 free time of 5:04.87.
In addition, all three divers, including Raley, freshman Lindsey Paulekas and sophomore Nicole Recupito are all NCAA qualifiers in the 1-meter dual dive. Paulekas qualified with 282.525, while Recupito scored 263.175. The "Swimmer/Diver of the Meet" award is shared between Raley and Klenner.
"I was disappointed with the outcome of the meet," said head coach Daniella Irle. "I am not disappointed with the team as individuals, but collectively I really believe we should have won this meet. We are physically a strong group, but mentally we are still maturing."
The Bulldogs, now 6-4, will face Nevada, in Reno, Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m.
