LOS ANGELES- Paced by first place finishes in all 11 events scored, Fresno State defeated Loyola Marymount, 169-38, Saturday at Burns Pool.
The victory was the first of the season for the Bulldogs and their second in as many years over LMU.
The Bulldogs led throughout the meet beginning with the first event of the day, the 400-medley relay. Fresno State's quartet of sophomore Carolyn Wigginton, junior Greer McGettrick, junior Kristi Collins, and Lindsay Palmberg finished first by a little over four seconds (4:00.37).
Fresno State sophomore Melissa Johnson won all three of her individual events to lead the squad. Johnson touched the wall first in the 200 Free (1:57.12), 50 Free (25.07), and 100 Free (54.23).
FS senior Bethany Starkweather and sophomore Carolyn Wigginton each won two events and senior Jessica Klenner and junior Sarah Batchelor won an event each for the meet.
Starkweather finished first in the 1650 Free in 18:10.99 and paced the field in the 500 Free with a time of 5:19.24. Wigginton secured the top spot in the 100 Back (59.47) and 200 Back (2:09.60). Batchelor won the 200 Breast in 2:29.28. Klenner captured a first place finish in the 200 Fly (2:11.91).
Overall, the Bulldogs recorded 24 top-three finishes on the afternoon.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend when they travel to Riverside, Calif., for a dual meet against Cal Baptist at 3 p.m. PST.
