Golf Team Takes Second at UCSB Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs completed the "Bite" Pacific Coast Intercollegiate under high winds today. The team finished in second place out of 19 teams with 878. The team tied with San Diego for the best final round. Both teams totaled 294 today.
San Diego State won the tournament with 866. UC Davis finished third behind Fresno State with 884. CSU Bakersfield placed fourth with 886. Pacific took the fifth position with 890.
Bullard High standout Jason Higton of Pacific won the tournament with a score of 68-70-74-212. Bulldog junior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) was ill with the flu and finished in eighth place with a score of 71-72-76-219. Senior Jonathan Echols (Hanford, Calif.) jumped from 13th place to tie with Watney at eighth with 74-71-74-219.
Senior Dustin Smith (Crescent City, Calif.) broke out for the Bulldogs as he moved from 62nd to 17th. His final score was 78-75-69-222.
Freshman Tony Harmon (Upland, Calif.) placed 43rd in the tournament with 76-76-75-227. Harmon, like Carter, has played just two other collegiate tournaments. He competed individually in the Fresno Lexus Golf Classic and in the JV tournament in Bakersfield.
Freshman Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) shot 71-74-78-223 and placed 21st. This is only the third collegiate tournament for Carter. He placed 17th just two days earlier in the Cleveland Golf Classic.
