No. 25 Women's Tennis Reaches Finals of WAC Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 1-seed Fresno State won the doubles point and shook off a dogged Tulsa team to win 4-1 in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The victory sends the Bulldogs into the championship match Sunday at 9 a.m. PDT against third-seeded SMU.
Fresno State (15-5) got things started quickly, picking up wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to grab a 1-0 lead heading into singles. The 10th-ranked doubles tandem of Simone Jardim and Kim Niggemeyer led off with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 over TU's Alicia Pillay and Jana Sedivec. That was soon followed by an 8-1 win at No. 3 by Courtney Jantz and Chantel Wiggins over Abby Horn and Zoe Buhagiar.
In singles, Fresno State took a 2-0 lead when Tulsa's Abby Horn was forced to retire in her match at No. 6 singles with the Bulldogs' Ewa Grusiecka. The lead increased to 3-0 when Jardim swiftly disposed of Sedivec 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
The Golden Hurricane (15-10) managed to get on the scoreboard with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 5 singles when Buhaigar took out Wiggins. But not much later, Fresno State closed it out at No. 2 when the 43rd-ranked Carlotti was victorious 7-6 (5), 6-3 over Aleksandra Durska.
