FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State competed the first day of the Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo GC in Santa Cruz, Calif. The team played 36 holes today and will play 18 again tomorrow. The course is a Par 70 and it is 6,445 yards. There was a shotgun start each day at 8 a.m. Fresno State finished in third place out of 17 teams with 571. Washington is in the lead with 546.
Junior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) is in 12th place with a score of 69-72-141.Freshman Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) has a score of 69-76-145. Senior Jonathan Echols (Hanford, Calif.) in 17th place with 70-75-145. Sophomore Chad Spencer (Rocklin Calif.) shot 81-73-154. Senior Dustin Smith (Crescent City, Calif.) shot 74 -69-143.
Last year Fresno State placed 10th with 885 (+45).Watney placed T22nd with 219 (+9). Smith placed T40 with 223 (+13) and Echols placed T74 with 223 (+13). Oregon won with 850 (+10) and San Diego State's Lars Johnson won with 206 (-4).
