COLUMBUS, Ohio - Fresno State faced wind and rain during the third round of play Friday at the 2002 NCAA Golf Championships on the Ohio State University Scarlet Course. The Bulldogs are tied for 22nd place with Georgia and Texas Tech with 873. The team total for Friday was 297.
Leading for the Bulldogs is junior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) who is tied for 9th. He was 18th Thursday. Watney shot a 70(-1) Friday. His total score is 72-68-70-210. Smith shot a 76(+5) and has an overall score of 75-73-76-224.
Echols shot a 79(+8). Echols' overall score is 71-74-79-224.
Georgia Tech is leading the tournament with 853. Tulsa is second with 854. Washington is third with 855. Minnesota and Texas are tied for fourth with 856.
Graeme McDowell of UAB is leading with 205. He shot a 67(-4) Friday and his overall score is 71-67-67-205. Hunter Mahan of Oklahoma State is second. He shot a 67(-4) Friday and his overall score is 68-71-67-206.
The NCAA Championships will conclude Saturday.
