Golf Stays Steady and Finishes in Sixth Place

Fresno, Calif. - After the final round, the Fresno State Bulldogs' golf team finished sixth out of the 11-team tournament field at The Topy Cup Tournament, held in Tanagura, Japan, this past week.
In the final round, Clemson stayed strong and held the first place position with a score of 830. Other U.S. schools competing included Minnesota, which landed in fifth place with a score of 861. Fresno State held their spot for sixth place with an 874, while Arizona State grabbed seventh and complied a score of 878.
Individually, senior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) captured second place with a score of 203 (70-65-68). Watney's strong second and final round pushed him up one spot and helped secure Fresno State's sixth-place finish.
Other Bulldogs that placed in the top 25 were junior Chad Spencer (Rocklin, Calif.), who jumped up to 24th place with a score of 218 (72-74-72) and sophomore Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.), who fell from 15th to 24th, tying him with Spencer with a score of 218 (75-69-74).
Rounding out the rest of the team was sophomore Ian Nelson (Canyon Lake, Calif.) who placed to 57th with a score of 243 (75-81-87) and junior Jeremy Moreno (Visalia, Calif.) stayed at 59th with a final score of 246 (86-80-80).
Fresno State competes next at the University of Toledo in the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 16-17.
