DALLAS (AP) - Damon Jackson and Renaldo Major each scored 17 points Thursday night to lead Fresno State to a 75-73 victory over SMU.
Fresno State (12-3, 5-1 WAC) had to hold off a late charge by the Mustangs for its sixth win in the last seven games. A Jackson three-pointer with 3:55 to go put the Bulldogs up 71-59. But Fresno State -- the WAC's leading free throw shooting team -- made only 2-of-12 from the charity stripe down the stretch. Meanwhile, SMU (6-8, 1-3 WAC) went on a 10-0 run to pull within two with 1:20 left.
Rolando Todd's two free throws with 37.5 seconds to go pushed the Bulldog lead to 75-71, but a Justin Isham transition basket with 15.4 left made it a two-point game.
Jackson missed two free throws with 14 ticks remaining, but Fresno State survived when Quintin Ross' three-pointer at the buzzer was just short.
In addition to Jackson and Major's nights, Noel Felix added 11 points and Jonathan Woods posted 10. The Bulldogs shot 51 percent from the floor and held the Mustangs to just 39 percent.
Ross led SMU with 23 points. Bryan Hopkins and Kris Lowe each scored 10 points.
The Mustangs hit 23-of-29 free throws to stay in the game. The Bulldogs hit just 6-of-19.
